The relocation of Brechin’s Post Office from 24 Clerk Street to Hendrys Newsagent at 11 Swan Street has been confirmed.
The move, which was subject to a public consultation, is set to take place on Wednesday, February 25, 2015.
In a letter confirming the decision, Suzanne Richardson, regional network manager for Post Office Ltd., acknowledged that consultation feedback focused on parking difficulties and traffic congestion.
She said: “While I have considered the concerns raised about road traffic and parking in the surrounding area, it is fair to say that this is a problem faced generally in many locations nationwide.”
She added: “I have conducted a further review of parking arrangements. I can confirm there are free time- restricted roadside parking bays opposite the new site, which is comparable to the existing branch and I am therefore satisfied that the move will not significantly impact on customer access.”
Concerns were also raised about space and manoeuvrability in the new premises. Suzanne said: “We have been working closely with the new operator to plan the interior layout, to ensure optimum use of the space within the sore and that access into and inside the store is kept clear and free of obstacles.”
Feedback from the consultation period also revealed support with some customers welcoming the longer opening times, and improved access.
The new Post Office will have three serving positions - one screed, one open plan and Post Office serving point at the retail counter.
The new opening hours are 9 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. Monday to Saturday, with the serving point at the retail counter open from 5 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursday, from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays and from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sundays.
The current Post Office, located at 24 Clerk Street, is set to close at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, February 25, with the new branch opening at 1 p.m. on the same date.
