At last week’s Brechin Rotary Club meeting Malcolm Finlayson was invited by member Melvin Coates to be the guest speaker.

Malcolm is Managing Director of Radio North Angus, and he described just exactly how this wonderful service, all run on a voluntary basis, came about and how it has developed.

He said his own interest in radio started as a youngster in the 1950s, and he was involved in the early development of Hospital radio in Dundee about 40 years ago.

Malcolm said he approached Stracathro Hospital administrator Jim Pirnie in 1977 with the idea to do the same there. As a result Radio North Angus went on the air in January 1979, with broadcasts spreading eventually to Forfar, Arbroath and Montrose.

Club member John Cavanagh gave a vote of thanks, commenting on the obvious enthusiasm and passion that Malcolm showed.
