Brechin’s great response

So many groups from Brechin, Edzell and Aberlemno, keen to take part in the Queen’s Diamond Jubulee celebrations at Glamis in May, have come forward that area co-ordinators may have to attach a gazebo to the marquee to ensure that everyone fits in.

The group organising the area’s marquee was initially unsure what response they may get for the event; now they are having work out how to fit everyone in.

Speaking on behalf of the sub-committee of the Brechin and Area Partnership, involved in organising the area’s marquee was Peem Milne: “The event is being well supported and we are actually almost at the point of the marquee being full.

“We have organisations from Edzell to Aberlemno, right through the community and the areas who want to get involved.

“We’ve got a huge diversity of groups, from the Caledonian Railway, the heritage leaflet, the retailer’s group who are always very supportive and keen to help, age concern and the Mechanics’ art group.

“Although obviously not in the marquee the Brechin Anglers have said they will put on a fly-casting competition.

“The photographic society, the friends of Stracathro, the floral art group and Brechin Youth project have got in touch with us, and Irene Gillies will be there with her listening service.

“I don’t want to highlight any group in preference to another but the range and diversity is there.

“The entertainment is being controlled centrally and we are not in the loop as to what is happening with that but we already know that Maisondieu choir are going, Andover’s drummers are going and I think Joyce Cromar’s dancers are going.

“We are delighted with the response we have had, if we had a concern now it would be about how we would lay the marquee out now after the degree of response we have had, but, we are looking at a wee contingency plan to have a gazebo at the side of the marquee in case that is need if there is a wee overspill.

“We started off wondering if anyone was going to respond now I am sitting wondering where I am going to be them all.”

The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations will take place at Glamis Castle on May 20.
