A Brechin woman has thanked her friends, family and the local community for helping her to raise £3115 for a cause close to her heart.

Freida Haggart raised the impressive amount for TCCL - Tayside Children with Cancer and Leukaemia.

The money was raised in memory of her husband, who sadly passed away last year after a battle with cancer himself. She said: “TCCL was a very dear charity for him. A collection for the charity at his funeral raised £1700.

“In memory of my husband, and because it’s such a worthwhile charity, last October I started fundraising. It was very small to begin with, selling items on Facebay. Thanks to Alan and Joyce at the Stables and with the help of Lodge St Ninian’s No 66 - my husband was a Mason - it grew arms and legs. I had planned to hold an event in my garden, but had to change the plan and Alan let me hold it in the Stables’ Car Park.”

The event - called ‘Let’s Lodge Lots’ - helped Freida reach her incredible total, along with a raffle and a quiz at the Stables too.

Freida added: “It was lots of little things that raised that fantastic total. It was just a coming together of people in Brechin. The generosity of people has been brilliant.

“It is a very dear charity to all my family. With my family and friends this would never have happened and I just wanted to say a big, big thank you to them all, and the businesses and people of Brechin for all their support. Thanks as well to the Stables for letting me use their premises and their generosity, and to the Masonic Lodge for all their help.

“I just can’t thank people enough.”

The charity also received a separate £400 donation from Zara Aitken (12), who raised money through bingo nights, at the Let’s Lodge Lots event.
