BRECHIN HIGH SCHOOL NOTES, MARCH 22
STORIES at Brechin High School recently include news of successful 'Come & Try' sessions, cross country running plaudits, and word of a strong string music competition. For more on these and other tales, read on...
School Athletics Club
The school is delighted at the number of young people from primary and secondary who have turned up for the two 'Come and Try' sessions in Brechin High School. At the last session on March 10, over 40 boys and girls took part. A further session will be held this Saturday (March 24) from 10am to 1pm in Brechin High School.
Strings Competition
The school wishes to Congratulate all the young people who took part in the strings music competition on Monday, March 12. Twenty of the schools highly talented pupils performed for the audience and the two adjudicators, Mary Wilson and Euan Gow from Forfar Academy. The winner in the Junior Class was Ciaran Ryan, while his sister Megan Ryan won the Intermediate Class. Sarah Hampton won the Senior Class, and Lynsey Merchant was named the overall winner.
Cross Country
Congratulations to Michael Taylor in S6 for winning the Senior Event at the recent Angus Schools Cross Country event at Monikie Country Park.
Tesco Computers for Schools vouchers
The school is collecting for a PC and appreciates all the vouchers that have already been handed in. The collection box is in the library but vouchers may also be left at reception.
Angus Book Award
The author visiting the school this year, as part of the award, is Sue Mayfield. The book "Damage" is a disturbingly realistic novel, which exposes the raw emotional wounds of those who are scarred by the events of one winter night. The ceremony takes place in Arbroath High School on Tuesday, May 15. The short listed books for the Children's Book Award are now available from the learning resource centre. Volunteers are needed to read these books (total of three) and then vote for their favourite. Pupils should see Mrs Downie if they need more information.
Young People's Health Worker
Young People's Health Worker's provide a confidential health service to all young people in Angus, including those under 16 years old. The school currently provides health drop-ins on a Monday from 5-6 pm at the Minor Injury Unit within the Brechin Infirmary and the Damacre Centre on a Wednesday from 4-5 pm. The school nurse also provides a health drop-in within the nurse's room at school on a Monday between 12.45pm and 1.40 pm. The Young People's Health Worker for the Brechin area is Jackie Sinnet and is based within Brechin High School.

Everyone who applied (and paid) has now been entered! They should receive their race number, sponsor sheet in the next 2-3 weeks. If you don't, please let me the school know. Also if you wish to have a race for life t-shirt, see Ms Gregory.
