Brechiner thanked for sharing class photo

A Florida father has thanked a local Brechin woman for sharing an old school photo featuring his son, who died while serving in the US Army.

Jerry Burge Snr, who lives in Pensacola, Florida, contacted the Brechin Advertiser to thank Frieda Fraczek for sending in a school photo from the early 1980’s. The picture featured in Down Memory Lane on the August 22, 2013.

Mr Burge said: “The photo was taken about 1980 when we were assigned to Edzell Base and lived in Brechin. My son Jerry C. Burge Jnr is located on the third row, fourth from the left.

“My son was killed on April 4, 2007 in Taji, Iraq while serving in the US Army. Please thank Frieda Fraczek for sending this school photo. It brings back many good memories of time we spent in Brechin.”

Mr Burge’s daughter, Michelle, also got in touch with some additional names from the photo. She said: “Front row looking at picture second girl at left April Horn. And third row tall boy in the middle my brother Jerry. Teacher is Mr. Mitchell he was an awesome teacher. The year is probably 1980 or 82.”

Speaking about her time in Brechin, Michelle added: “We are American and got to go to Andover because we all lived in Brechin. It was an amazing experience for me. I have great memories of friends and the school.”
