The glamour and glitter of burlesque will be brought to Aberlemno next month to help secure some of the county’s valuable Pictish heritage.

Burlesque at Balkeerie will stage the performance in the village hall on Saturday, May 7, with funds raised going towards an adaptation of the hall to accommodate a display of Pictish carving.

When the Pictavia at Brechin closed in 2014, a home had to be found for the replica Pictish stones that it had housed. Aberlemno Community Council contacted Angus Council to offer the collection a new home to prevent it being split up.

But, in order to curate the exhibits properly, improvements to the hall need to be carried out.

Louise Lear, event organiser, said: “I have a background in Circus, in fact, we came to the area from the Circus, and our boys went to Aberlemno school and so the village hall committee asked if I could help them put a show together.

“Some of them came to a similar show we did for the Eassie, Nevay and Kirkinch village hall and really enjoyed the evening, so I asked some friends, and we have a full evening of burlesque and cabaret and hope to do them proud.

“One of our performers is recently back from Paris, and another is just back from Milan, but we’re all home-grown talent coming together to have some fun and give everyone something a little bit different with plenty of laughs thrown in.

“It’s shaping up to be a really fun evening, but a burlesque show needs an audience who will shout and cheer in all the right places so we hope we can fill the hall and raise the roof.”

Doors will open for the show, which is for over 18s, at 7pm and advance tickets, costing £7, are available by texting or calling 07936 047217 or £8 at the door.
