Burns Supper will help with Africa project work

A FUND-RAISING Burns supper has been organised by two local women to raise money for Goodwill and Growth Africa UK.

Irene Gillies and Cheryl Birse, long-time friends and former nurses, are raising the money to help children at the First Step Right pre-school.

First Step Right pre-school currently has over 100 children in attendance.

The project is set in the heart of a rural valley; Kwa-Ximba, Kwa-Zulu Batal South Africa. As issues such as poverty and HIV and Aids persist there is dire need for education, however, providing education proves difficult due to the deterioration of the building as well as the unavailability of electricity.

Goodwill and Growth Africa UK supports First Step Right by helping to overcome these issues and allowing the children to be educated in a good and safe environment.

All proceeds of the Burns Supper, which will take place at the Mechanics Institute on Saturday, January 28 at 7pm for 7.30pm will be in aid of Goodwill and Growth Africa UK.

Tickets priced £12 per person include a glass of wine.

Irene and Cheryl are also having a Gilbert and Sullivan evening on Saturday, February 4 at the Burn House, when they will welcome back the St Andrews University Gilbert and Sullivan society who delighted the audience at last year’s event.

Tickets can be bought either from Cheryl Birse (01356) 626282 or Irene Gillies (01356) 624446.
