A former pupil of Brechin High School has presented a piece of artwork of Brechin’s Mechanics Institute to the Civic Trust committee.

Sally Myles handed the painting to Stewart Hill, chairman of the trust, and Brian Mitchell, who is secretary.

The picture will be displayed in the Mechanics Institute.

The Civic Trust committee awarded Sally the Allan W. McMann Bursary in recognition of her artwork.

The bursary will provide her with financial support of £500 per year while she undertakes her undergraduate degree next session at the University of Dundee.

The purpose of the bursary is to support a Brechin High School pupil for the duration of an undergraduate course at University and to encourage the young people within the city to take an active interest in the history or built heritage of Brechin.

The piece of work could be an essay in the region of 2,000 words or a collection of photographs, sketches, or paintings with a supporting commentary.

Applications are still being invited for consideration for a bursary for session 2013-2014.

To apply, contact Steve Dempsey, head teacher at Brechin High School, for further information.
