The Dalhousie Bar could be set to reopen - as a bookmakers

A former Brechin pub that has been closed for nearly two years could be set to open its doors - but this time as a bookmakers.

Angus Council has received a planning application from Ladbrokes to turn the Dalhousie Bar into a new branch for the company.

The move has sparked anger on the Dalhousie Bar Facebook page as locals had hoped to see the venue reopen as a bar once again.

A post on the page has urged locals to say ‘no’ to the plans, and has already generated 59 ‘likes’, with many of the comments stating that the town does not need another bookies.

The building, located on the corner of Market Street, is a category B listed building under Historic Scotland, and has been since 1979.

However, the famous horseshoe bar is not covered under the listed building and the plans for the new bookmakers would see it ripped out.

The plans will see the bar area will become the Ladbrokes shop, with the former pool hall set to become a staff area.
