Brechin based renewable energy experts Forster Energy have been announced as ‘medals’ sponsor of next year’s Angus Rotary Marafun.
The sixth marathon distance team event to be organised by the Rotary Club of Forfar, is to be held on Sunday, May 25.
A ‘Mini Mile’ race, for under 15s, is also to be run over a short circuit on Forfar’s main street prior to the main event. All proceeds from the day are to be donated to the Ninewells Cancer Campaign charity and other local charities.
Forster Energy, part of the Forster Group of companies, which includes Forster Roofing and Forster Industrial, has a long track record of supporting Tayside charitable and non charitable events including the Angus Show. They are also the headline sponsor for this month’s Angus Ambassador of the Year Awards.
Forster Group Chairman, John Forster said: “I’m looking forward to cheering on the three Forster teams on the day. In fact the whole team here at Forsters are excited because Marafun fits perfectly with our approach to promoting healthy working lives. We also feel it presents a great opportunity for people of varying running abilities to get involved in a community based event that promotes wellbeing and at the same time raises much needed funds for local charities”.
Dave Valentine, Angus Rotary Marafun Convener welcomed the sponsorship announcement saying: “This is a tremendous boost for our all-Angus campaign.
“As medal sponsor, Forster Energy have certainly taken the lead in encouraging teams to enter for next year’s Marafun. I’m delighted to hear that so far 15 employees have been quick off their marks to express an interest in running and this will be a great example for firms across Angus to get on board.
“Forster Energy have also committed to donating all the funds they raise to the main event charity Ninewells Cancer Campaign which is a great start to our fundraising”
Jim Houston, Brechin Rotary Club President added: “It’s great to see a Brechin company support this all-Angus event and I hope to see more teams from Brechin raise much needed cash for their organisations by entering teams. It’s also great to see that, as well as making a financial donation, Forsters are adding considerable value by promoting the event more widely through their social media platforms. It’s also good to hear their plans to publish training tips and provide a forum for runners to discuss their preparation progress in the lead-up to the event.”
