A local butcher’s steak pies have been judged amongst the best in Scotland.
Bel’s Butchers, Edzell won two awards at the 2011 Scottish Craft Butchers Steak Pie Evaluation held in Perth with Annabel Forbes, owner of Bel’s Butchers, receiving her awards at a special presentation held at Inchture Hotel on Wednesday, August 31.
A total of 169 pies from throughout the country were tested for appearance, flavour, filling and appeal.
The panel of judges included experts, cooks and interested consumers and the event was organised by the Scottish Federation of Meat Traders in conjunction with the Scotch Butchers Club and William Sword Ltd.
Bel’s Butchers received the following awards: Steak & Kidney Pie - Gold Award; Traditional Steak Pie – Silver Award.
David Mooney, Direct Sales Manager of William Sword commented: “These awards are extremely important in the Scottish meat industry calendar, celebrating excellence across the board.
“To receive an award is a fantastic achievement as these winners represent the upper crust of the Scottish meat industry, tremendous given the high standard of produce across Scotland as a whole.”
