Rent arrears rise within council area

Rent arrears in Angus have risen in September to 7.79 per cent from 7.44 per cent.

In continuing moves to drive down the rent arrears, there have been 924 actions including 58 court actions being taken resulting in 28 cases where the court decreed in favour of the council and 16 per cent of decrees ending with an eviction.

Members also heard that some of the rise in rent arrears was due specifically to welfare reforms.

However, Angus has performed better than most, with many other councils continuing to see much more substantial rises in arrears.
