SALAVATION Army Trading Company Ltd’s (SATCoL) charity shops in Arbroath, Brechin and Montrose are appealing for volunteer drivers to help collect donations from people in the local area who are unable to bring them to the shops themselves.
Donations could include small, portable furniture such as side tables, nests of tables, coffee tables, bedside cabinets and stools, as well as large amounts of bric-a-brac, homeware and clothing.
Drivers would be required to make pre-arranged house calls organised by the shop teams and transport the donations back to one of the designated shops.
The collections can be arranged around other commitments the volunteers may have and could include evenings and weekends if they’re more convenient.
Profit made from the sale of the items in the shops will be gift-aided to The Salvation Army to help fund its work in communities throughout the UK, which includes homelessness services, elderly care, assistance at emergency incidents, projects for children and families and much, much more.
Area manager for SATCoL, Arlene McKenna said: “Charity shops are being used more than ever by people struggling in the tough economic climate, especially mothers with young children, so shops like ours are always in need of more stock to meet the high demand
“This is especially the case with small, portable furniture items and household goods.
“We hope that by providing a collection service for these types of items, which are hard for most people to carry into town, we can make it really easy for people to donate to us.
“We get lots of calls relating to house collections and volunteer drivers would really make a difference as we could take in much more stock.
“Not only will they help us stock the shops and raise more money for charity, they will also help those people in the local community who need quality items at reasonable prices.”
The shop teams emphasised that volunteers do not need to drive a van – a car with a reasonable sized boot or back seat would be fine.
