A local group that carries out vital work with lonely and vulnerable people has held their most successful ever Easter coffee morning.

A spokesman for K&D Befriending Group said that at the event at Invercarron Recourse Centre they raised a whopping £1000.

He said this money would be used to help the group to continue their vital work of matching volunteer befrienders on a one to one basis with people over 55 who have become socially isolated because of illness, disability or some difficulty or change of circumstance. Volunteers provide companionship and outings for older people who felt lonely and were isolated.

Treasurer of the group Rodney Payne said that the event raised a fantastic amount of money for their cause.

“I would like to thank the volunteers who helped at the coffee morning for all their hard work. I would also like to thank the public for supporting us and coming along,” said Mr Payne.

He said it was the same people who helped at the coffee morning who went along and visited older people in the local community.

“Their delicious home baking and decorated Easter eggs sold well and people at the coffee morning willingly put their hands into their pockets,” said Mr Payne.
