A Brechin business owner with a love of animals will be holding a Christmas collection to help animals in the care of the SSPCA’s Petterden centre.

In previous years Debbie Farquharson of Country Canines, has held a collection of food to feed dogs at Arbroath’s Angus Dog Rescue over the festive period and over the year has fund-raised for the Perthshire Gundog rescue and Mountains Animal Sanctary.

This festive period, instead of concentrating a collection on just dog food Debbie is looking for donations of any type of pet supplies, from pets toys and food dishes to cages and bedding.

Debbie explained: “Christmas is a tough time for animal charities as they do not rehome at this time of year in order to put the word across that a pet is for life and not just for Christmas.

“Kennels, catteries, horse sanctuaries and other rescues are full to the brim and anything we as animal lovers can do will help.

“This year I have chosen to help the SSPCA at Petterden, near Dundee, and instead of looking for dog food I am looking for any pet supplies such as dog leads, coats, and bowls to hamster cages, cat toys and rabbit water bottles.”

The SSPCA look after a range of animals, including cats, dogs, rabbits and hamsters as well as more unusual pets such as snakes, horses and ferrets.

If you have any food, beds, bowls, blankets, leads, collars, raining aids, cages or similar, that you no longer need for your pet why not drop the items off at Country Canines’ shop between 1 and 5. 30 p.m. Monday to Friday. If you require items collected please contact Debbie on 01356 623007 or 07543 424544.

The SSCPA receives no government or lottery funding and relies on public donations to continue their vital work rescuing and rehoming animals.
