Brechin High Street was full of festive cheer last Saturday as crowds flocked to Christmas in the City.
The event, organised by BRAVO Brechin, saw STV’s Rona Dougall switch on Brechin’s Christmas lights. Members of Brechin Pantomime ‘Cinderella’ were also on hand to entertain the crowds, as well as performances throughout the day from a variety of local groups.
A BRAVO spokesman said: “We would like to thank all those who came along on Saturday to support the Christmas Lights Switch On, to the members of the public, to our star of the day Rona Dougall, to our volunteers without whom the event could not have happened and of course our shop keepers, stall holders plus crafters who all played a vital part in the day.
“Thanks also to Gardner Memorial Church for their help in the event, a special thanks to the Earl of Dalhousie and Ian Christie for supplying the magnificent Christmas tree at the cross. Also a vote of thanks to all who participated in the Best Dressed Window competition, it was judged by our star Rona Dougall who, after careful deliberation, chose Turriffs. Well done Turriffs.
“The museum staff played a big part also in our event by allowing Santa Claus to visit the museum and set up his Grotto and provided hospitality to him and his helpers while he spoke to the boys and girls and noted their wishes for Christmas. Thanks to the staff and Santa Claus.
“Last but not least is Angus Council and its staff, especially John Shand, for his help in the switch on. We look forward to next year.”
