St Andrews Church Brechin bade farewell to the Reverend David Mumford and his wife, Elizabeth, at a special choral evensong last week.

David is retiring after being priest at the church for over eight years, and there were a large number of well wishers to mark this special occasion.

He and Elizabeth are now moving to Dunbar.

David became Episcopal rector of St. Andrew’s, Brechin and St. Drostan’s, Tarfside, in 2007. During his time in the area, he has served as a member of the City of Brechin and District Community Council and was Dean of the Brechin Diocese.

He has been convener of Brechin Churches Together, part of the chaplaincy team at Brechin High School and has much valued his visits to primary schools, especially Lethnot and Tarfside primaries.

St. Andrew’s has played its part in taking services at sheltered housing in Brechin and at residential homes and Father David will miss the tea and cakes at The Glade.

At provincial level he has regularly attended the General Synod of the Scottish Episcopal Church and is a member of the provincial Personnel and Church in Society committees.

James Carnegy Arbuthnot spoke on behalf of the congregation of Father David’s dedication and devoted service over these years.

He added that the couple will be very much missed, wishing them good health and happiness in the future.
