MEMBERS of the Brechin Retailers Group are looking forward to ‘Christmas in the City’, with a special day of events on December 10.
The latest meeting was held on Tuesday of last week, when the various plans for the festive period came under the microscope.
Representatives from businesses such as Place Right, Sunrise, McKay’s Bakery, The Hardware Store, Adagio Music, Blacks Furnishers, Sanpado Florists, Rosie’s Bakehouse, Print Matters and The Mechanics Institute were joined by councillors and others, to discuss preparations for what they hope will be a fantastic Christmas in Brechin for the whole community.
One of the first items up for discussion was the Christmas Window Competition.
Participating retailers are to dress their windows festively to see who can produce the best window display over the Christmas period.
Members of the public will be asked to vote for their favourite and those who select the winning shop will be entered into a prize-draw. A winner and a runner-up will win vouchers to be redeemed in participating shops.
Retailers are also planning to have special offers over Christmas, to encourage people to shop locally.
These offers will be advertised by fliers and other means, which shoppers should keep an eye out for in the coming weeks.
A special day of events is planned for Saturday, December 10.
The high street will be shut off to traffic, with the trade planning a variety of events and performances.
Live music, food, dancing and stalls are all planned - the idea to create a real carnival atmosphere in the High Street.
These events, along with others at Brechin Castle Garden Centre, The Caledonian Railway, along with the Christmas lights being turned on, promise to make it an eventful time in Brechin.
All in attendance at the meeting agreed that the proposals can give the members of the local community some festive cheer and a Christmas to remember.
