Bob Myles is to stand again as an Independent Candidate for Brechin and Edzell at Angus Local Government Elections.
For the past 13 years Mr Myles has represented Brechin and Edzell on Angus Council, and for the past five years has also led the council.
Announcing his decision, Mr Myles said: “It has been a privilege to represent Brechin and surrounding areas during very interesting times. Times when local government budgets are being cut, but there are expectations, quite rightly, that the council still deliver all the services required.
“I am pleased to say we have been able to deliver these essential services with little change at less cost by improving the efficiencies within the council. This has been recognised by the recent survey where there was a 99% satisfaction rate among the people in the county
“In 2007 we changed the mould of local government in Angus by taking party politics out of decision making. May I thank the Conservative, Labour and Liberal Members on the council that put any party differences aside to work for the betterment of each burgh and Angus as a whole.
“This has been a welcome change to the one party dominance that was prevalent in Angus and elsewhere in Scotland prior to 2007. This has allowed local decisions to be made locally.
“In Brechin may I thank retiring Councillor Leslie Melville and Councillor Evans for supporting the specific Brechin initiatives.
“This allowed us to get the essential work repairing the fabric of the buildings carried out in the town centre through the Town Heritage Initiative and develop plans for building a new high school among others.
“If elected I will continue to do my best for the area and promote the best Brechin, Edzell & Angus has to offer both locally and nationally.”
