Information sought after unsolicited call

Police in Brechin are appealing for information after a male made an unsolicited call to an elderly female on the pretence if supplying a ‘therapy pad’.

Sightings are requested of this male, described as in his 50’s, approximately 5’9” with dark brown hair and wearing a dark waist length jacket, pinkish shirt and dark trousers.

He was in the area of Westwood at about 11.30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 4, and may have been in Market Street shortly before that. The male may have had access to a blue 4x4 vehicle.

Local community officer, PC Billy Rattray said: “This is very similar in nature to a recent incident in Monifieth which is also under investigation.

“I would urge people of all ages to be aware of unrequested contact from individuals who enquire into, or show prior knowledge of your medical conditions.

“Do not allow anyone entry to your home without first verifying who they are. Ask for identification and before letting the caller in, contact the firm or department they represent to confirm their authenticity. When doing so, obtain the number from the phone book or internet - do not accept a number provided by the caller.

“If the caller is genuine they will be happy to wait whilst you do this. If you are suspicious of any caller please contact police on 101.”
