Four intrepid Brechiners are setting off on a car journey for five local causes next month.
Andy Downie, Bruce Bremner, Brian McCombie and Tony Smith will be setting off on June 1 from Brechin covering 1600 miles as part of the Monte Carlo or Bust Rally.
The foursome, nicknamed the Dally Dafties, will be driving a 17-year-old BMW 540 - and they are hoping the weather in France is not too hot as the air conditioner in the car doesn’t work.
The rally challenges car enthusiasts to source a banger for less than £300 and take part in a variety of hilarious challenges along the way, competing for points and prizes.
Teams are encouraged to raise money for a local charity of their choice and can share their progress with supporters back home via live GPS tracking.
There are two routes available - Champagne Charlie and Black Forest Gateau - with the Dally Dafties opting for the Black Forest Gateau route.
The team will register on June 2 at Namur, Belgium.
The race then kicks of on June 3, with teams heading from Namur to Freiburg, day two will see them travel from Freiburg to Lake Como with the third and final day taking the team from Lake Como to Monte Carlo.
Bruce: “We thought ‘why not do it’. It will be a good laugh and we can raise money for good causes while we are at it.”
The team are raising funds for Hedzup Racing, Brechin judo, Brechin Amateur Operatic Society, Brechin Cinema and Brechin Rugby. They have set up an online donation page, which can be accessed at https://crowdfunding.justgiving.com/Dally-Dafties-Rally
Bruce added: “We are all self funding it so every single penny will go to the causes.”
