THERE were diamond wedding celebrations for a Brechin couple last week.
Mr and Mrs George and Ena Hendry, from Dundas Park, awoke on Thursday to find their garden and house decked in celebratory banners announcing their 60th wedding anniversary.
The couple, who were joined on Thursday evening, by members of their immediate family, received some special mail hand-delivered by postman Gordon Harper, who they had known since he was a boy - a telegram from the Queen.
The couple met at the Tecalemit works where they both worked, just after George left the army.
They married at Brechin Cathedral before heading to Elgin for their honeymoon.
George then worked as a electrician with Forbes and Steel before becoming self employed.
Ena worked at North Eastern Farmers.
They have three children, Gordon who now resides in Singapore, Alan and Pam and ten grand children.
The couple always joked that they deserved medals for being together for so long.
This came true on Thursday when they became proud owners of matching Long Service Award medals.
In addition to having direct family over on their wedding anniversary on Thursday, the couple held an open house on Sunday for family and friends to join them in their celebrations.
Continuing their celebrations the couple will be going out for a meal with their family next weekend.
