People in Brechin have accused Angus Council of double standards when it comes to recycling the county’s waste.
Only last month a spokesman for Angus Council announced plans for a new waste collection service in Brechin and Edzell in a bid to prevent too much waste going to landfill that would be detrimental to the environment.
Now, however, people using Brechin skip site have been told that a recycling service previously available has been withdrawn and that as a result more waste is being sent to landfill.
It has also been claimed that glass and tin waste gathered at Brechin City Hall is also going to landfill.
Christine Sinclair of Lubbock Park said that last week she took a load of rubbish to the recycling centre in Brechin. She said she had rubbish in carrier bags and after she emptied them she was all set to put the carrier bags in the wheelie bin normally reserved for that purpose when she was informed by a council employee at the site that there was no longer one there for that.
“I was told that it was now too expensive to do this and that the carrier bags now just went to landfill. What’s going on?”
