The short-list for the 2012 Angus Book Award has been officially announced.
The four short-listed titles are: Pastworld by Ian Beck, Flip by Martin Bedford, iBoy by Kevin Brooks (Penguin Books), Being Billy by Phil Earle (Penguin Books).
The annual event, which began in 1996, is aimed at promoting reading for enjoyment by teenagers in Angus.
It gives both committed and less enthusiastic readers the chance to engage with new, rewarding and accessible books for teenagers.
The S3 participating pupils will find out more about the four books and hear from the authors at mini launches taking place in all eight Angus secondary schools during the remaining time of the school term.
The pupils will also hear about the chance to make films about the books, compete in art and book review competitions and to use GLOW, the national grid for learning, to share their views on the books.
During the coming months, pupils will read their way through the short-list, before voting for their favourite in a secret ballot.
The 2012 winner will be announced at the award ceremony at Carnoustie High School on 22 May 2012.
Copies of the short-listed books are in all schools for participating pupils and at the various public libraries in Angus for other interested teenagers and their parents.
