“Fun in Athletics” heat held in Brechin

Angus Council Sports Development Team have hosted three Fun in Athletics festivals across Angus during the past week in partnership with Angus Active Schools.

Festivals have taken place in Carnoustie, Arbroath and Brechin with these three events completing the Fun in Athletics heats for 2012 across the county.

Fun in Athletics is designed to give children an introduction to athletics through lots of fun track and field events in a team-based environment. The Angus festivals have seen teams of up to 15 boys and 15 girls in P6/7 from Primary Schools across the county take part in relay races, javelin, speed bounce, standing long-jump, standing triple-jump and vertical jump events.

Monikie PS (Carnoustie event), Timmergreens PS (Arbroath event) and Warddykes PS (Brechin event) will be join the other top Angus teams at Lochside Leisure Centre, Forfar on Wednesday, December 5, to contest the Fun in Athletics - Angus Final 2012. Other finalists are Birkhill PS (Monifieth), Lochside PS (Montrose) and Whitehills PS (Forfar).

Sports students from Angus College who have been trained to help run the Fun in Athletics Programme will again be on hand to support the children taking part at the Fun in Athletics – Angus Final.

Around 840 Angus youngsters have taken part in the six festivals across Angus so far and the Angus Final will involve 180 boys and girls coming together in December.
