Brechin High School has been awarded £7320 to hold a series of Commonwealth Games Events within the cluster.
The programme, which will see six local primary schools and the local high school take part, will bring children and young people together to promote healthy lifestyles and physical activity, whist letting showing support for Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
The schools participating are Brechin High School and Andover, Maisondieu, Edzell, Lethnot, Tarfside and Stracathro primary schools. Three separate events will be organised for Primary 1-3, Primary 4-7 and S1-6.
Primary 1-3 and Primary 4-7 pupils took part in their own Commonwealth event at Guthrie Park on June 9, with Brechin Cricket Club, Brechin Rugby Club, Brechin Golf Club, Brechin City Youth Football Club and Brechin and Parkview Bowling Clubs all involved.
The local sports clubs will then be in the cluster schools from August to December with a programme of after school taster sessions available to all ages.
The high school will hold its event on Monday, June 23, with pupils competing in various events throughout the day. The whole school will be involved in the week running up to it, with the Commonwealth Games and countries involved covered in lessons.
Each school will represent an adopted Commonwealth nation, which they have researched and wear T-shirts designed by pupils.
Katy Gordon, active schools co-ordinator, said: “The successful bid has allowed us to plan and promote a wide range of activities and events for the pupils of Brechin to get involved in. We hope through these events pupils will be encouraged to play more sport/activity and support their local sports clubs, whilst showing Glasgow 2014 their support.”
