IT HAS been another great year for Smyleetots, the voluntary run Parent Toddler and Baby Group in Brechin.
Throughout 2012 parents and children have enjoyed regular arts and crafts, baking, cooking, and music with Brenda. The group also enjoyed a summer trip to Perth Leisure Pool and Noah’s Ark in the Fair City. Birthday, Hallowe’en and Christmas parties were also enjoyed.
Smyleetots took part in Brechin’s Easter event earlier in the year and entered the egg decorating competition - with Aiden Southam from the group winning the competition.
One of the committee members, Sarah Archibald, arranged for the children to take park in the Angus Show’s creative competition. The children worked so hard and it really paid off, with Mackenzie Lee, Alice Archibald, Ethan Dalgarno, Joseph Miranda and William Clark all winning a prize.
For their annual summer trip, the group visited Perth Leisure Pool. After the pool they enjoyed a picnic in the park just outside before going on to Noah’s Ark soft play centre. One of the biggest highlights for most of the kids was getting a ride on a bus.
At Hallowe’en this year, all the children made a great effort to dress for the Halloween Party. The winners this year were:-
Toddlers – Chloe Bisset, Mason Mitchell, Mackenzie Lee.
Babies - Nils Marshall, Sophie Boath, Aimee Milne.
Smyleetots held their Christmas party on December 16 using the occasion to mark the graduation of some of their older toddlers and to celebrate new members. Over 50 children attended the party, along with parents and grandparents.
As it is a voluntary group, Smyleetots relies on fund-raising and regular attendance of their members. Without this commitment from parents the group wouldn’t be able to fund their summer trips, Christmas party, equipment and general running of the group.
Over the last year many fund-raising events have been organised including a quiz night at the Caledonian, sponsored toddle to the garden centre, craft fair at the Cathedral Hall and a stall at the Maisondieu Primary School shopping night. The group also have a tub for parents to put in unwanted coppers – which in just over three months managed to raise £48.
Chairperson for Smyleetots, Sarah Clark, said: “We’d like to thank local business including Brymers Butchers, Gardiners and Turriffs, for donating raffle prizes! And a massive thank you to Mum Sarah Archibald – who made a tremendous effort and an amazing job of organising the craft fair, which had to be one of our most successful fund-raisers of 2012.”
Sarah added: “A big thank you also has to go to Trisha Swanson, Caryn Dalgarno and Sadie Watson. Thanks also to Gail Wilson for organising regular Arts and Crafts and to all the parents for their help over 2012.
“The biggest thank you has to go to Treasurer Lorraine Mitchell, who has just finished her third year on the Smyleetots committee and is largely responsible for the rising success of our group.
