Pupils at Andover Primary School showed how much they hate litter on Friday, when they took part in the National Spring Clean event. The pupils hope their actions will have a positive impact on their school grounds and the paths nearby. It is also hoped that the litter pick will show the rest of the community how big an issue litter has become – and that dropping it is not acceptable.

Not only does litter spoil how the town looks and damages tourism, it costs Scottish Council taxpayers £65 million a year to clean the streets. “The pupils want to encourage everyone to keep the neighbourhood tidy as a lot of litter blows into the playground from the surrounding paths. The pupils take pride in the environment and hope this day will encourage others to take pride too,” explains head teacher Mrs E. Howson.
