Dundee College hosted its gowned, awards ceremony on, Friday, when nearly 375 students walked across the stage of the Caird Hall and shook hands with Principal Christina Potter.
About 1500 guests, family and friends of the students, attended this formal ceremony which recognises the achievements of those who have successfully completed advanced programmes such as Higher National Certificates or Diplomas and post-graduate courses.
Dundee College works in partnership and has close links with universities around the country and this year’s ceremony welcomed representatives from two of these to oversee the presentation of certain awards. Professor John Harper, deputy principal and vice-chancellor of Robert Gordon University, was on stage as those receiving a BA in Design and Creativity were presented with their award – RGU is the validating body for this degree; while Dr Heather Robson, associate dean of Northumbria University, which validates BA (hons) Dance, was also on the platform to see graduates gain their award.
Both of these courses are taught by Dundee College staff in Kingsway and Gardyne Campuses but are validated externally.
This year’s ceremony saw a dual role for Lord Provost John Letford who, as well as representing the city, was keynote speaker.
Award winners in the Brechin area were as follows:- Professional Development Award in Further Education – Lesley Anderson, Brechin; SVQ Level 3 Plumbing Modern Apprenticeship – Jordan Myles, Brechin; HNC Social Sciences – Harry Barnett, Brechin; Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching – Caitlin McIroy, Brechin; HNC 3D Computer Animation – Roy Stevens, Brechin; HND Beauty Therapy – Victoria Craig, Brechin.
