ANGUS secondary schools will close on two additional in-service days to allow teachers to prepare for the introduction of new qualifications.
The dates have been agreed following consultation with head teachers and will take place in the new school session.
Angus Education convener Sheena Welsh said: “Head teachers and parent councils have been notified of the dates of the additional closures in order to provide parents with ample time to make any childcare arrangements.
“Schools in Angus have been fully supported in engaging with the new curriculum. Innovative work undertaken in Angus, such as the development of a new electronic tool to plan and track pupils’ learning, has received national recognition.
“We must now ensure that teachers are provided with similar support and guidance to ensure we are well prepared for the introduction of the new national qualifications, and that Angus pupils develop the necessary skills and attributes required for life and work in the 21st century.”
The revised arrangements mean that, in addition to the scheduled in-service day on Monday August 13, all secondary schools will close for an extra in-service day on Tuesday August 14.
The second additional in-service closure day for Brechin High School, Forfar Academy, Montrose Academy and Webster’s High School will take on Wednesday February 13 2013, while Arbroath Academy, Arbroath High School, Carnoustie High School and Monifieth High School will close Wednesday February 20 2013.
