Brechin Castle Garden Centre is offering a truly unique experience for primary school age children to join the Autumn fun with Spookley the Square Pumpkin.
On October 2, the Centre welcomes local primary schools who are taking part in the Inter-School Pumpkin Challenge as they present the pumpkins they have grown and their storyboards to a prestigious panel of judges including Carole Baxter from BBC Beechgrove Garden.
The school representatives will carve pumpkins, taste pumpkins, learn about the health benefits and challenges of pumpkin growing before hearing the story ‘The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin’.
The square pumpkin story forms an integral part of an Anti- Bullying campaign – as children adventure with Spookley finding out that sometimes being different makes all the difference.
The Centre has gifted each school participating the story of Spookley and have provided teacher resource packs for additional fun as schools focus on a culture of respect, diversity and unity.
A spokesperson for the garden centre said: “During the October holidays the pumpkin fun continues for all as the Centre takes the scary out of Halloween. Children will be entertained with a daily screening of the movie ‘Spookley the Square Pumpkin’, pumpkin carving, face painting and pumpkin tasting as well as the Search for Spookley and a funky pumpkin colouring competition.
“Children find out the best way to choose the perfect pumpkin for carving and join the team as they supervise pumpkin carving and design. Healthy eating is promoted as children are invited to taste Homemade Pumpkin Soup (or Soup of the day if they prefer!)”
