Classroom teacher ‘Baby Thea’ made her last visit to Andover Primary School recently as part of the Roots To Empathy Programme which has been introduced to some primary schools in Angus for the first time this year.

The children in P2/3 presented Thea with a book of their favourite nursery rhymes, a certificate, letters and a wishing tree, outlining their wishes for Thea for her future.

The programme aims to develop children’s empathy, reduce aggression and promote pro-social behaviour. It has been delivered over the past 39 weeks. The children have observed the powerful impact of parenting on baby Thea and engaged in teaching relating to safety, crying, feeding and inclusion. All these topics have been reinforced through children’s literature. Feedback from the class teacher and Thea’s mother has been very positive.
