Pupils learn about the role of bees

Pupils from Andover and Edzell Primary schools got some hands-on experience on how to “Bee Aware” of the importance of bees.

Brechin Castle Centre hosted an event on Tuesday, May 21, which saw around 150 pupils from four Angus school attending.

With the help of Beechgrove Garden presenter Carole Baxter, staff members were on hand to help children to plant bee friendly plant seeds.

Children then heard about beekeeping from a beekeeper from Scarletts Scotland.

Brechin Castle Centre staff were also gave talks and showed children round the centre’s wildlife meadow in the country park.

Each school took home their planted seeds, gardening gloves, a beehive cake made by the centre’s baker, and £50 worth of plants for their school wildlife garden.
