In a recent rugby sevens event hosted by Carnoustie High School, Brechin High had three teams taking part.
One of the under-18 teams was made completely from Brechin High players, and the other was a combined team with a couple of Montrose Academy players showing up to represent their school.
Brechin High also had an under 16 team taking part.
All teams played well and showed skill throughout, with everyone who took part enjoying a sunny afternoon, although the cool wind did make it a ‘chilled’ encounter.
The games were short, physically demanding and fast paced with a full pitch to cover with just seven players and tries usually coming from lung busting runs.
Tackling was good and support was even better with offloads continuing some very good phases of play and passing to the wide players proving to be clinical.
The wind made kicking difficult, with kick offs going everywhere and conversion attempts floating wide or falling short of the target.
Although results didn’t go their way, the boys left with high spirits after a good tournament managing a few wins and narrow losses against some tough opposition.
Hopefully this performance will encourage the school and more players to improve and take part in more rugby competitions in the future.
