Tarfside become FairTrade School

The pupils at Tarfside Primary School are celebrating the fact that they have become a FairTrade School. Coming just a few months after Brechin's successful bid to become a FairTrade city, Tarfside is the first school in the Brechin area to have achieved fairTrade status. In addition to learning about FairTrade and how buying FairTrade goods can help people in developing countries, the children have actively promoted fairtrade in the community. A spokesperson said: "The children all have a very good awareness of what FairTrade means, and have enjoyed educating their families, friends and neighbours about it. The older children have had the valuable experience of being part of a committee, and have learned many useful skills through operating their FairTrade stall. They are delighted to have had their hard work recognised by the FairTrade Foundation."
