THE PERSONAL achievements of Brechin High School pupils were recognised at an awards ceremony held in the Reid Hall, Forfar, last Tuesday.
The annual Angus Young Achievers award ceremony, held by Angus Council’s Education Department, saw London 2012 Olympian Eilish McColgan presenting awards to over 220 pupils who have been placed in the first three in a national competition in a wide variety of activities, represented their country or made an outstanding contribution to their community.
Local prize winners were as follows: Member of the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland - Flora Henry; UK young ambassadors for sport - Rebekah Drummond (Scottish Schools climbing champion and third in GB for age), Dana McFarlane, Murray Smith, Elizabeth Barreiro; Winner of the Saltire award for volunteering despite severe hearing difficulties - Findlay Crowe; Youth Parliament - Andrew Laurie; Organised numerous music events for the Brechin community - Leonie Moir; Bowls finalists in Scottish age group championships - Ross Alexander, Kerri Craig; Member of Scottish junior curling team - Craig Joiner; Member of the Scottish fly fishing team - Martin Runcie.
Councillor Welsh said: “Whether the achievement is in sport, arts, science, technology or another field, Angus Council recognises the hard work, dedication and talent it takes to achieve at this level.
“Congratulations and well done to all this year’s young achievers.”
