Edzell Gala Day is to take place this Saturday (August 1) with a parade from Inglis Memorial Hall at 12pm starting the event.
The parade will travel down Edzell High Street, ending at the church where the gala queen and her attendants will be crowned.
A spokesperson for Edzell Village Improvement Soceity (EVIS), who organised the event, said: “We have returning acts such as Riders of the Storm horse show and Angus Falconry performing this year as well as a pipe band and live music throughout the day.
“Radio North Angus are also set to broadcast live from the Gala. We are featuring local produce such as Cairn O’ Mohr wine, Burnside Brewery and Normas Preservatives. For the kids we have Angus Bouncy Castles coming along and the annual fancy dress competition will also be included. There is something for everyone, making it a great day out for all the family.”
Tay FM’s Street Team is also expect to make an appearance at the event.
This year the Fancy Dress has been extended to include bikes – so you can dress up yourself or you can dress up your bicycle and wheel it along in the Gala Procession.
Gala Day marks the start of Edzell’s Gala Week, and a variety of events have been organised for the occasion.
There will be an Edzell Family Bike Ride going from Edzell Park around Stracathro area and back roughly 10 miles on Tuesday, August 4, starting at 7pm.
The Annual Family Bingo is on Wednesday, August 5 in the Inglis Memorial Hall, Edzell starting from 7pm for 7.30.
There will be the Annual EVIS Gala Quiz Night on Thursday, August 6 in the Panmure Hotel, Edzell starting 7pm for 7.30. Bob Myles will; be the quizmaster and teams of three people are required.
The spokesperson added: “We also hope to have a Edzell Village Duck Race Friday, August 7, ducks will be available to purchase on the day of the gala or at the other gala weekly events.”
The race will take place down at the river at roughly 6 pm. A BBQ will be available on the night and tickets will be sold on gala day at the EVIS stall.
The Annual Family Treasure Hunt is on Saturday, August 8 starting off on Edzell Muir. All ages are welcome. Prizes will be given to those with the most answers correct.
The Annual Flower Show is on Sunday, August 9 at 2pm. Schedules are available in local shops.
There are many categories and classes to suit all ages and talents.
There will also be the annual Edzell ‘Beat the Clock’ Fun Run starting at the Inglis Memorial Hall on Sunday August 9, with registration at 9am.
