Elections for local councils

Angus residents are being invited to put themselves forward as candidates for election for their local community councils.

A notice of election was published last week for the 25 community councils in the area.

To be eligible for elections, you need to live in the community council area you want to represent, be at least 16 years-old and on the electoral


The community councils in the Advertiser area are as follows:-

Aberlemno (eight vacanvies, The City of Brechin & District (13), and Inveresk (nine).

Inveresk covers Edzell, Inchbare, Stracathro, Little Brechin, Menmuir, Careston, Lethnot and Glenesk, and hope to have interest from each area stand for election to ensure that each area has presentation on the council.

The minimum number required to establish a community council is as follows:

Aberlemno, 4; Brechin, 7; Inveresk, 5.

From now until Monday, September 28, residents are invited to put themselves forward as candidates in their community council area by submitting a nomination paper and personal statement to the returning officer (community council elections).

Nomination forms are available from the Returning Officer (Community Council Elections), Elections Office, Angus House, Orchardbank Business Park, Forfar, DD8 1AN, Community Council secretaries.

They can also be downloaded from their community council election pages and can be submitted on any week day between 10am to 4pm up until 4pm on Monday September 28.

Maps of community council areas are available to view in public libraries and can also be viewed on the community council pages.

Voting for contested elections is scheduled to take place on week beginning Monday October 26, with results declared a week later.
