Angus MP Mike Weir met Christian Aid partners from the Philippines and Bolivia to hear what its like to live with climate change and how it’s affecting the world’s poor.
Mr Weir met Voltaire Alferez, who runs a group of organisations campaigning on climate change in the Philippines, and Elizabeth Peredo, Director of Fundación Solón which campaigns on climate change in Bolivia.
He heard directly from them on the impact climate change was already having on their countries and the difficulties of economic development when it could all be suddenly destroyed.
Mr Weir said: “The statistics are sobering enough but the problem is really brought to life when you meet someone who is living with it and can tell you their story.”
He added: “Christian Aid is an excellent organisation, working to address the things which cause poverty and make it worse – like climate change.”
