Development on the former Woolworths premises is progressing, as our picture (below) shows.
Taken from inside the building, currently being renovated by Kirkgate Properties, the picture shows there is a long way still to go until the building is finished, but clear progress has been made. As we reported in January, local developer Kirkgate Properties plans to create four retail properties on the ground floor of the building, while the upper storey will be converted into four two bed-roomed flats.
Ronald Shand, of Kirkgate Properties said: “There is going to be four shops in the building and we have started to put the framing up for one of the shops and may have a tenant for it already.
“There may also be another tenant for one of the other shops which leaves us with two shops that need to be occupied.
“We will probably put the properties to an agent to try and encourage a national shop to come to Brechin.”
Ronald had previously mentioned a clothes shop is something the town is drastically needing.
He added: “We are looking to bring some diversity to the town along with some more of a choice in clothing or shoe shops and this will hopefully bring more retailers into the centre of Brechin. We somehow have to kick-start the opportunties for more retailers to come in.”
