Mythical dragons and one of Scotland’s most famous kings are to feature in a new campaign aimed at encouraging visitors to come to Angus in the autumn.

VisitScotland, in partnership with the Angus Council, is using a mix of digital and press advertising to inspire people to take a break to the region later this year.

With the new film adaptation of ‘Macbeth’ currently in cinemas, the activity offers a chance for visitors to explore the land of Macbeth with a visit to Glamis Castle, inspirational to Shakespeare’s dark play.

The activity, which is part of the national tourism organisation’s ‘Brilliant Moments Are Closer Than You Think’ campaign also features details about new interactive event, DragonQuest at Monikie Park, a magical feast for the senses which is set to transform the famous forest throughout October.

Other events to be held in the region later this year include:

● Angus Brewfest (October 17)

● World Hickory Open Championships, at Carnoustie Championship Course(October 19-23)

● Halloween at Glamis Castle (October 31)

● Scottish Christmas Market at Glamis Castle (December 11-13)

Home to Arbroath Abbey, House of Dun, the stunning Angus Glens and the culinary delights of the Arbroath Smokie, the drive aims to inspire Scots and visitors to Scotland to head to Angus to an autumn break.

With the Year of Food and Drink 2015 draws to a close, potential visitors are also being given a final taste of the region’s culinary repertoire with details of mouth-watering local produce and delicious dining experiences.

Working with industry colleagues such as the National Trust for Scotland, the activity includes a special prize draw offering visitors the chance to enjoy a 3 night stay at North or South Stables where they can enjoy their own brilliant moments.

Jim Clarkson, VisitScotland Regional Partnerships Director, said: “From our magnificent Abbey and stunning shorelines, to our outstanding natural larder and world-famous historical attractions, it’s so easy to fall in love with Angus and with this new campaign we hope visitors and potential visitors will do just that.

“Tourism is an important part of the Angus economy, creating jobs and sustaining communities. The Year of Food and Drink has helped shine a light on the region’s culinary delights and encourage visitors to sample more of what this part of Scotland has to offer. Of course, we need to keep building on that momentum and showing visitors that Angus is a treasure trove of brilliant moments whatever the season.”

With an exciting programme of events like the live theatre spectacular DragonQuest and Angus Brewfest, a celebration of independent Scottish brewers and distillers, there’s something for everyone to enjoy this Autumn in Angus. It’s also a great time of year to experience the Angus countryside as it changes colour with the season – enjoy a walk along the stunning coastline or visit the stunning Angus Glens – the views will leave you speechless!”
