Family meet for trip down memory lane

A group of four family members met face to face for the first time in Angus, after finding each other two years ago, to take a trip down memory lane.

Judy Stewart, who lives in Arisaig, Jenny Dale, from Somerset, Gabrielle Scott-Heath, from Virginia USA and Nicholas Scott, Atlanta USA, are all descended from the Scott family who ran the Lamb and Scott factory on Commerce Street.

Judy and Jenny, who grew up in the UK, knew about their American relatives, but Nicholas and Gabrielle had no idea about Judy and Jenny.

Two years ago, Judy and Jenny were able to trace Nicholas and Gabrielle, and eventually they met to tour Brechin, where their ancestors lived and worked,

Judy explained: “We are the offspring of three of the four Scott brothers. My grandfather, David Lamb, used to run the factory, whose offices later became the Old City Club.”

The factory, which used to employ around 300 people, closed in the early 1930s as a result of financial difficulties caused by the Wall Street crash. The business exported linen and jute to America, and had hoped the financial crisis would blow over.

The foursome visited former family homes on Park Road and Latch Road.

The group also revealed that, now they have uncovered so much about their family history, they are going to compile the information for future generations.
