STAFF at the Brechiner are still coming to terms with the sudden death of popular reporter Steve Mitchell (writes Alan Ducat).
The senior member of staff, who ran our Brechin office, collapsed at his home a week past Sunday.
His death at the age of 42 came as a great shock to us all, and we are indebted to our readers in Brechin and the surrounding area for their patience and understanding during what has been a very difficult time.
Steve got a great send off at Glebe Park on Sunday when both sets of fans acknowledged the support he had given his beloved Brechin City over many years.
A City scarf and tankard was placed on the seat regularly occupied by Steve as he reported on games, while the 2404 fans at the game joined in a minute’s applause.
There will be a final farewell to Steve on Friday when his funeral is held in Gardner Memorial Church at 11 am, thereafter to Brechin Cemetery. Family and friends are asked to wear Brechin City tops or red and white colours, while a collection at the service will be taken for Stracathro Hospital’s Macmilllan Centre and Brechin City Football Club.
