Brechin Horticultural Society has announced that this year’s Brechin Flower Show will not go ahead.
The decision by the committee followed an extra meeting on Wednesday, April 13, to discuss the viability of continuing with this year’s show.
In a statement announcing the decision, the society explained: “As of this moment in time proposals have been submitted to the council from the City Halls user groups to take on the City Halls but to date nothing has been formalised. So under these circumstances the committee held a vote as to whether to go ahead with the show or to cancel this year’s flower show. After great deliberation the committee returned a majority vote not to proceed with this year’s proposed show.”
President of the society, Mr T. Bennett commented: “It was a hard decision for the committee to make given the Horticultural Societies long standing history with Brechin and the City Halls. I sincerely hope that when we hold our AGM in November the situation with the City Halls has been completely resolved so that we can start to organise next year’s (2017) show.”
Brechin Horticultural Society, which was established in 1839 and has held an annual flower show in the town. They marked their 175th anniversary in 2014.
