The very best of Angus food and drink will be in the foodie spotlight from March 19-27, when the Taste of Angus Festival takes place across the county.

From quality Aberdeen Angus beef to freshly-picked Eassie asparagus to delicacies such as Arbroath Smokies to gins and vodkas flavoured with local soft fruits, Angus is widely acknowledged as one of the best places to eat and drink in Scotland – and The Taste of Angus Festival will provide lots of opportunities to find out why!

“Our reputation for first class, fresh, local produce is already known far and wide,” said Councillor Mairi Evans, Angus Council tourism spokesperson. “The Taste of Angus Festival is a fabulous way to increase this reputation further and I am delighted so many local businesses are involved. This is an excellent chance for local people and visitors to the area to discover just how good Angus food and drink can be.”

The week-long foodie feast includes a Meet The Producers event at Brechin Castle. This will run throughout the festival, with Brechin Castle’s suppliers holding regular demonstrations. On March 19, Ailsa Howard of Artisana will share a few of the secrets of her delicious baking at a breadmaking workshop in Kirriemuir, while on March 22 and 24, Sacred Grounds Coffee Company, Angus’ first coffee roaster, will host days devoted to talking about, roasting and drinking coffee at the Old Bean Coffee House in Arbroath.

The excellent vegetables and fruit grown in Angus are ideal for preserving and, on 20 March, a food market will be held at Murton Farm near Forfar to launch a new range of jams and chutney made by students and staff at the popular tearoom, farm and nature reserve.

The fabulous flavours of Angus will be to the fore at the Taste of Angus Night at Smithies in Arbroath on March 25. A delicious, locally-sourced menu featuring Angus produce - including fresh meat from Fleming The Butcher and Arbroath Smokies from E&O - will be available all evening, along with a selection of tipples from The Gin Bothy, which is near Kirriemuir.

The Taste of Angus Festival concludes on Easter Sunday, March 27. Over the Easter weekend, Forbes of Kingennie is holding a special weekend of family activities, including Easter Egg Hunting, face painting and a restaurant menu featuring ingredients grown on the family farm. There’s also a family fun day at Brechin Castle on Easter Sunday, which includes a market showcasing local delicacies.
