A former Brechin High School pupil is teaming up with his father in a bid to raise fund for a charity close to their hearts.

Kevin Murphy, who was raised in Brechin and educated at Maisondieu Primary School, is heading to the Lake District with his father, Frank Murphy, a retired Forfar businessman.

The pair will walk the Cumbria Way from May 31 to June 7 to raise funds for Children with Cancer and Leukaemia Advice and Support for Parents (CCLASP).

Kevin is already on target to raise £600 with Frank currently sitting at £70.

Frank said: “I have done a bit of fund-raising over the years for cancer charities and this time we decided to raise funds for a charity that is close to my heart.

“I used to work with children with cancer and I have seen at first hand the support CCLASP can give to families.

“I have been out training for this but I have to say I will be out with experienced hill-walkers. I am just going to follow them!”

The 72 mile hill-walk passes through the Conistonwater and Derwentwater areas before ending at Carlisle.

The group will trek Broughton Beck, Gawthwaite, Coniston, Rosthwaite, Keswick, Caldbek and Sebergham before crossing the finishing line at Carlisle

CCLASP is a parent-led voluntary organisation established in 1994. Although based in Edinburgh, it assists families throughout Scotland.

It offers information and advice on all aspects of living with and caring for children with cancer and leukaemia.

Most of the staff and volunteers are all parents or grandparents of children or young people who have or have had cancer or leukaemia which enables them to provide a level of support and understanding impossible without firsthand experience.

It currently assist approximately 500 parents throughout Scotland. Anyone wishing to sponsor Frank and Kevin’s efforts can visit www.justgiving.com/KevMurfy
