It may not be the country’s capital, but it turns out Glasgow is Scotland’s favourite city – according to a new online survey into which cities Scots love most.

Scots were asked which Scottish city they loved most – and over a third of all 1000 respondents (39 per cent) gave their vote to second city and cultural hub Glasgow.

The survey, carried out by Zespoke to coincide with the first anniversary of the Scottish independence referendum, also revealed Glasgow was particularly popular with 18-24 year olds, as more than half of the survey’s youngest participants championing Scotland’s second city.

Edinburgh fared well in the study, attracting a sizeable 29 per cent of the vote – and, in fact, Scotland’s vibrant capital was first with the country’s male participants.

Edinburgh also proved popular with Baby Boomers – almost half of whom declared the capital the greatest city in Scotland.

Inverness (13 per cent) seized third place in the poll, followed by Aberdeen (5 per cent), Dundee (3 per cent) and Stirling (3 per cent).
