The Glenesk Retreat is taking part again in Scotland’s acclaimed Luminate festival, with two firsts - an exhibition of a new photographic challenge from October 2 to 9 and also on October 9 ‘The Closer We Get’, a newly made award winning documentary by Scottish film maker Karen Guthrie, who will be present and will answer questions.
‘Since it appeared at the Edinburgh Film Festival in June the film has been scooping up awards.
Luminate is Scotland’s nationwide festival celebrating creativity as we age.
Luminate comes to Glenesk with a remarkable film - a powerful and exquisitely shot autobiographical portrait of loyalty, broken dreams and redemption told by reluctantly dutiful daughter Karen. In her film she takes her audience to the heart of the household she returns to for a long painful goodbye. She also returns to her family’s dark secret.
The evening will start with food at 7pm. The film will be shown as soon as everyone has eaten. Tickets are £10 for food and film and it is advised to book by phoning Angus Arts 01356 648 669 / 670 304 or the Retreat 01356 648070.
The Luminate photographic exhibition opens at the Retreat on Friday October 2 for one week during a tour of Scotland. It will show a selection of photos from the first Luminate Photographic challenge for which people of all ages, from all over Scotland, including Angus, have submitted images of someone of another generation who inspires them. The exhibition will be open on the evening of the film.
