Brechin’s Good As New Shop, which raises funds for the Dalhousie Day Centre, is aiming for a June 2 reopening.
As the refurbishment work on the store continues, project manager Janet Penman is optimistic that the doors should be open again by Tuesday (June 2) - if not earlier.
Giving an update on progress, Janet commented: “All the local tradesmen and businesses are doing a power of work to meet the deadline I set for the opening the doors again.
“If all goes well we may even manage to open on Monday, June 1, so I suggest people keep looking at the shop for confirmation.”
Prior to the opening Betty Hendry is conducting a review of opening days and hours with her volunteers and further information will be published next week.
She explained: “We are hoping to have enough volunteers to add an extra day and extend the hours on our open days.”
To mark the store’s new look, a Grand Opening ceremony will take place at 11 am on Friday, June 5.
Long-serving Dalhousie Day Centre board chairman, Doctor Robert Martin, will have the honour of cutting the ribbon, and board members and volunteers will be present to greet shoppers.
The organisers behind the event have extended a very warm invitation to members of the community to come along on the day to support the event.
Robert added: “We have welcomed the income from the Good as New shop over the years to help us buy and replace our transport which brings local people into the Dalhousie Centre.
“It has also helped us put in our share of the funds when applying for grants for large expenditures to improve the facilities.
“On behalf of the Board, I wish to extend an enormous vote of thanks to all our volunteers who have supported us over many years.”
